The Balliol Left Caucus is a semi-formal speaker and discussion group that I currently organise. The aim is quite simply to talk about “left wing” issues, ideas and so forth, for whatever reasons seem most apt. Absolutely everybody is welcome, regardless of their political outlook, or whether they attend an Oxford College or not. All that we ask is that all come with an open mind and a respect for others’ opinions.
The schedule for this coming term has yet to be determined, but there will eventually be one.
Previous speakers have been:
- Thursday May 3rd – Dr Chris Brooke (Balliol and Magdalen Colleges)
- Thursday May 17th – Mr Oscar Van Nooijen (local Labour councilor)
- Saturday June 9th – Mr Fraser Campbell (All Souls College)
All talks were united by the common theme “What does it mean to be on the left?”, with speakers interpreting that how they chose. Equality came up a lot.

Is this going to be on next term (MT07)?
If so I might pop along.

You should invite a speaker from the SPGB, but I would say that.
