next time you see him phone the police and tell them he's taking pictures of children and attempting to lure them into his car.

the least they will do is take his camera/ film off him to be on the safe side.

you don't have to give the police your name and it will so fuck his day up esecially if he's on any sort of commission and deadline. I wouldn't worry what they print about you in that ass rag it's only fit to recycle into toilet paper, that way it will have shit on it twice.

Amen. He's a tosser. Anyone who thinks that relieving a child of her belief in Father Christmas is something to boast about is clearly woefully short on insight and empathy.

He's carved a nice niche for himself as a rent-a-scoffer. Whenever the BBC want a sceptic they wheel him out. I once heard a program on the radio about astrology. Russell Grant was explaining that the stars don't actually cause events on earth, simply that they are synchronised to them in some way. And there was Dawkins scoffing about how the stars can't cause events on earth. In other words he failed to refute Russell Grant. That is to say that the world's most intelligent man was defeated by a very fat, very camp tabloid astrologer.

One thing The God Delusion teaches us is that Dawkins knows shit about the prehistory or religion and doesn't give a shit about ever learning, despite the fact that he sees fit to make pronouncements on it. What a dick.

I was trashed in 1997, admittedly this is only 12 years ago not the 15 that you mention. My friends threw a rotten squid down my charity suit - but they had obtained it from a fishmonger's disposal pile, so presumably that wasn't offensive.

I'm sceptical about people falling over purely as a result of slipping on left-behind detritus. These are cobbled streets, slippery when wet. 99% of the time they are wet is due to rain.

I'm a bit sceptical, too, about the sums that I've heard quoted for street cleaning - up to £20k a year, sounds a bit steep to me.

I suggest a market solution. Instead of trying to stamp out this relatively harmless tradition, the Proctors levy a sum on everyone who is trashed. Say, £15 for clear liquids only, £25 for dairy, £50 for animal remains? Alternatively, trashing "licences" could be auctioned. The revenue used could be used to equip homeless people with cleaning equipment and pay them a generous wage to clean the streets. Everyone a winner, except the council cleaners who probably appreciate their summer overtime.

He's even worse in real life (or it this case, the telly) than in print.

Why the Beeb or any other media outlet would fund him to junket around the world to quibble with rabbis is beyond me.

@Amber Everybody looks good in print because they have an EDITOR. Listen to him quibble. IRL he's probably driven more to 'faith' just on the surface perception that atheists are unhappy meddling gits like Dawkins. Which most are not.

This is the biggest load of claptrap rubbish I've ever read. Not all students at Oxford are ridiculously wealthy - far from it - and getting "trashed" is certainly not exclusive to the wealthy. Anyone getting trashed knows its gonna happen, and as one of the comments here has already noted people will go and buy a cheaper suit to get trashed in so as to not ruin an expensive one. Some of us buy said suits from charity shops, thereby helping charities as well.

My main issue is with this whole "deeply offensive to homeless people" diatribe. On the basis of your argument, you should take Tesco and Sainsbury's to task for throwing away food that isn't bought on any given day. You should take to task anyone who is so offensive as to walk in front of homeless people listening to an iPod, or eating a burger, or wearing designer clothes.

What you've done is draw an arbitrary line somewhere unspecified, and said that anything beyond this line constitutes "offensive behaviour". But drawing an arbitrary line is a wholly normative decision - it has no basis in any kind of fact. Homeless people are a tragedy, sure, but you are suggesting that any kind of outward statement that may imply you are wealthier and them is offensive. This is plain crap. You can't simply say "no, it's cos its food" - what's the difference when all you're talking about is money? If someone smokes a pack of fags, that's £4.50 of potential food. If someone spills ketchup on their t-shirt and has to buy a new one at Primark, that's £3 of potential food. Throwing a few eggs and some flour is about 50p of food.

People like you should get off your high horse and think rationally for a change. People are just having fun, and having the thought police come and try to stop it just makes it even more fun for those who do it. Do a cost-benefit analysis, and I'm fairly sure there's only one winner.

I agree with the allegory for American superiority, and the ideology of the US military, in particular the notion of 'self sacrifice for the good of the many' that has been acknowledged in this article. As a teacher of Film and English in the UK, it is our job to unravel the social commentary evident in films and to discuss ideas of representation and hegemony. The ideals in this film are clear, and although you may dismiss them as pure entertainment they are evident throughout.
The alternate ending (available on the special edition DVD box sets) is far more 'Hollywood' and has a completely different message. In this ending Neville and the alpha-male reach an agreement after the alpha comes to collect his mate. Neville reinfects her with KV and returns her to the alpha, who in turn prevents the rest of the pack from killing Neville, making it clear that the killing of the zombies in the pursuit of a cure has to stop. Indeed the notion of a 'cure' was interesting - anyone who is different needing to be wiped out or 'cured' screams of US military ideology. The end of the alternate film is simple: there is enough room in this world for us all to get along, regardless of differences.
I wonder why this one was never released?
